Altomira, Messinia

Altomira (Αλτομιρά ) is a village of the municipality Avia, in Messenia, Greece.

The population of the village in 2001 was 72. The mountain village is mainly used in the summer as a residence by some stock farmers or people who spend their vacation.

Altomira was mentioned in 1618 with a population of 20 families. In 1835 it was part of the Gerineia municipality and in 1841 part of the old municipality of Avia until 1914 when it was changed to an independent community.
