Periphery: East Macedonia and Thrace
Asimenio (Greek: Ασημένιο) is a village in the municipality of Didymoteicho in the northern part of the Evros Prefecture in Greece and is just 3 km east of the centre on the GR-51 (Alexandroupoli - Orestiada - Nea Vyssa - Ormenio) and the road connecting Pythio and Petrades. The frontiers of the municipalities of Orestiada lie to the north, Metaxades to the west and Kyprinos to the northwest. Location Asimenio is also located 40 km south of Edirne, 5 km west km west of the Evros and the Turkish border, north-northeast of Alexandroupoli and about 950 km northeast of Athens. History It was annexed to Greece in 1920. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt. Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s.
