Drakovouni

Drakovouni (Greek: Δρακοβούνι), Arcadia, Greece is a remote village of Gortynia, Arcadia, located in northcentral Peloponnese, northwest of Tripoli. The nearest towns are Theoktisto, Migdalia, Prasino and Kerpini, The few year-round residents are involved in agriculture. The village is connected with the road Tripolis-Patras. The pine forests are surrounding the town while the mountain with the same name overlooking the village has 1,077 metres elevation.


Information

The previous name of the village was Glogova and was changed in 1926-7 by decree of the Greek government. The village is famous for the victorious battle of the guerrillas against the Nazis on April 20, 1944. Drakovouni has an elementary school, four churches, and three monasteries.
