Triklino (Greek, Modern: Τρίκλινο, Katharevousa: Τρίκλινον), older form: Triklinon is a small mountainous village (altitude 600 m.) of Greece. The Evrytania prefecture is bounded to the north and was bounded over the Acheloos river before the construction in which the only marking of the old riverbed is partly the prefectural boundary. It is located in the northwest part of Greece and belongs to the Aetolia-Acarnania prefecture. Its former name is Priantza (Πριάντζα). The village belomgs to the Inachos municipality (Valtou province). Its population is about 200 inhabitants. The nearest major city is Agrinion.

History

Originally, the name "Triklino" referred to a village at the valley of river Achelous. The valley was cultivated mostly with corn plantations. It was abandoned during the early 60s,when the goverment compensated the farmers in order to begin the construction of a huge dam over the river, at a place known as "Kremasta".The settlement and the cultivated land were eventually covered by the water of the artificial lake.

Most of the villagers moved to the village "Priantza',which eventually changed its name to "Triklino" .The old settlement is today referred to as "Kato Triklino".

Tatarna Bridge

In the early 1970s the bridge of "Tatarna" was constructed. The bridge is located approximately 3 km east of the village, and connects the Aitolia-Acarnania and Evritania prefectures. The bridge is considered a very important architectural achievement , and holds 4 world records related to its method of structure (arcitect: Αρίσταρχος Οικονόμου).

From the village derive their origins:

1.The abbot of the Tatarna monastery Stefanos Papadimitriou. See [1]

2. The combatant (of the national resistance to the Germans) pfysician Charilaos I.Papaioannou with his brothers Alexandros (army officer) and Christoforos (teacher). See [2]
