Colotes, sculptor

Colotes was a Greek sculptor in the 2nd half of the 5th century BC.

Reconstruction of the frieze of the Zeus Statue with the killing of the children of Niobe by Artemis (probably a work of Colotes, while the frieze with the children killed by Apollo some assume is the work of Pheidias)

He produced friezes of the colossal Zeus statue in Olympia showing the story of Niobe and her children killed by Artemis and Apollo.

Pausanias:

The table is made of ivory and gold, and is the work of Colotes. Colotes is said to have been a native of Heracleia, but specialists in the history of sculpture maintain that he was a Parian, a pupil of Pasiteles, who himself was a pupil of....
