Phoenix of Colophon

Phoenix (gr. Phoinix) of Colophon, a choliambic poet, of unknown time, of whose poems Athenaeus preserves some fragments, the chief of which is in ridicule of the arts of certain beggars, who demanded alms in the name of a raven which they carried about on their hands. (Bode, Gesch. d. Lyr. Dichtk. vol. i. p. 337; Meineke, Choliamb. Poes. Graec. pp. 140-145.)
