Themison of Laodicea

Themison of Laodicea (Θεμίσων) [1st century BC] Greek physician founder of the Methodist (Μεθοδικοί) school of medicine in Rome, student of Asclepiades of Bithynia.

A satyrical text (Juvenal): “As many sick folk as Themison has killed in a single autumn" (quot Themison aegros autumno occederit uno)”

Some considered Thessalus of Tralles as the founder of the Methodist school.

According to Therapie mit Blutegeln Themison introduced the use of bloodsuckers in European Medicine ( for example for those who suffer from headaches).
