Scapte Hyle (Σκαπτὴ Ὕλη). Also called, but less correctly, Scaptesyle, a small town on the coast of Thrace, opposite the island of Thasos. It contained celebrated gold mines, which were originally worked by the Thracians. Thucydides here arranged the materials for his history ( Plut. Cim.4; Marcell. Thucyd. 19).
