Description Funerary stele of a paedagogue, may come from Saida (now Sidon, Lebanon). Stuccoed and painted limestone, Imperial Roman era, 3th–4th centuries AD (?). The inscription reads: ΤΟΝ ΣΟΦΟΝ ΕΝ ΝΟ(Μ)ΙΟ(ΙΣ) ΠΑΙΔΕΥΣΑΝΤΑ ΕΦΗΒΟΥΣ ΤΟΝ ΘΡΕΨΑΝΤΑ ΒΡΟΤΟΥΣ ΚΑΙ ΕΝ ΣΤΕΡΝΟΙΣΙ ΔΙΚΑΙΟΝ ΠΑΡΘΕΝΙΚΑΣ ΤΕΛΕΣΑΣ ΑΞΙΑ ΝΥΜΦΙΔΙΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΖΗΣΑΝΤΑ ΚΑΛΩΣ ΕΒΔΟΜΗΚΟΝΤΑ ΕΤΗ ΚΑΤΑΓΡΑΦΟΣ ΕΝΘΑΔΕ ΚΕΙΤΑΙ; "wise amongst the shepherds (?), he raised the ephebes and made men of them; fair at heart, he raised the young girls to the dignity of married women; during 70 years he led a good life; now Katagraphos lies here".
