Olives are very important for Greeks (not only ancient but also modern Greeks). It is not without reason why Athens is called Athens and not Poseidonia as Greeks preferred the olive tree gift from the goddess Athena more than the gift from Poseidon. Greeks used olive oil to produce soap and even used oil as coating for before exercise in the gymnasium.

Greek wine was famous throughout the Mediterranean and was exported to places such as Egypt. In the film Cleopatra Julius Caesar buys Greek wine in Alexandria. Greek tradition is the discussion of “philosophical matters” accompanied by drinking wine known as “symposium” a Greek word for drinking together. By the mid-fourth century BC, most middle-class houses were equipped with symposium rooms (andrones). The symposium was adopted later also by the Romans, probably less intellectual oriented. Wine considered important for a good health probably because its acidity prevents the growth of microorganisms.
