Alector in Greek Mythology is a son of Anaxagoras and father of Iphis, king of Argos. He was consulted by Polyneices as to the manner in which Amphiaraus might be compelled to take part in the expedition against Thebes. (Apollod. iii. 6. § 2 ; Paus. ii. 18. § 4.) Two others of the same name are mentioned in Homer. (Od. iv. 10; Eustath. ad Horn. pp. 303 and 1598.)

Homer Od. iv. 10

He was seeing her off
with chariots and horses for her journey
to the famous city of the Myrmidons,
whom her husband ruled.  For his son, Menelaus
was bringing Alector's daughter home to Sparta.
That son, mighty Megapenthes, born to a slave,
was his favorite, for the gods had granted Helen
no more children after she had given birth
to the lovely girl Hermione, as beautiful
as golden Aphrodite.
