Antea / Stheneboea

Antea or Anteia also known as Stheneboea (Σθενέβοια),was King Iobates' daughter in Greek mythology. Antea loved the hero Bellerophon though she was married to Proetus. Anteia fell in love with Bellerophon and attempted to seduce him, but he refused her advances. Enraged, she went to Proetus and claimed that he had tried to rape her, and demanded justice. Proetus couldn't kill a guest and suppliant, so he sent Bellerophon on an errand to Iobates with a letter instructing Iobates to kill him. Unable to do so, Iobates eventually succumbed and married Bellerophon to Anteia's sister Philonoe.
