- Eumelus succeeded Adrastus as the King of Pherae. He led Pherae and Iolcus in the Trojan War on the side of the Greeks.
- Another Eumelus was the husband of Ipthime and the son of Admetus and Alcestis. He won the chariot races at Achilles's funeral.
Troops from Pherae by Lake Boebea, from Boebe,
Glaphyrae, well-built Iolcus—these came
in eleven ships, commanded by Eumelus,
Admetus' well-loved son, born to him by Alcestis,
loveliest of Pelias' daughters. Iliad Book 2
Once Achilles finished speaking,
swift charioteers rushed into action. First to move,
well before the rest, was Eumelus, king of men,
dear son of Admetus and excellent with horses. Iliad Book 23
- Still another Eumelus * was a king in the region of Aroe, Achaia. He was the father of Antheias who was killed when he tried to use the chariot of Triptolemus. In the place where he died the city Antheia was founded
* According to Photis Kontoglou Eumelus means "he who mas many sheeps", (derived from the words eu ena mela)
