  • Euler Leonhard (1707-1783)

Euler, a Swiss mathematician, worked in number theory, differential geometry, calculus, differential equations. He was author, journalist, educator, inventor, mathematician, astronomer. Born April 15, 1707 in Basel, Switzerland. He developed integral calculus, theories of lunar motion in 1753 and 1772 and wrote the first calculus book. Important contributions in number theory, graph theory. He lost sight in one eye at age 28 and in the other at age 59. He died September 18, 1783. It is interesting to note that many famous mathematicians were also musicians or music theorists. In

fact, treatises on music were written by Pythagoras, Ptolemy, Euclid, Boethius, Cardan, Huygens, Euler. For example, Euler published Tentamen novae theoriae musicae in 1739, in which he tried to make music ... part of mathematics and deduce in an orderly manner, from correct principles,

everything which can make a fitting together and mingling of tones pleasing.
