European University - Cyprus

European University - Cyprus is a for-profit university in Nicosia, Cyprus. It was formally known as Cyprus College until it was approved to be a university in September 2007. The university has an enrollment of 3,500.

The university was founded in 1961 by Ioannis Gregoriou as a business school. It has since expanded into a number of other fields, including computer science, graduate studies and social sciences. In 2005, Laureate Education, Inc. purchased a 45% stake in the then "Cyprus College". The network of for-profit colleges owned by Laureate Education infused the college with technical and academic support. As a result, the college had already submitted an application to the Cypriot Ministry of Education and Culture to establish a private university with the name Cyprus International University. Approval for this came in September 2007 and the college has changed its name to European University - Cyprus[1].
