The Name is derived according to a version from Roman tombs discovered in the area of Spilia called by the Cypriots Spilioi.
Many left the village of Spilia around the 1980s. Around Spilia there are various abandonded villages such as Anemourka, Asproi, Freritzi, Karterouni, Pyrkatis
In the village is the church Agios Antonios build around 1850, there is also another church with the same name from 1970
The village has also a folklore Museum and a Museum of Skarparis in a traditional house of Andreas Chryanthou build in the year 1870
