Kefalovryso (Greek, Modern: Κεφαλόβρυσο, Ancient/Katharevousa: -on, alternative romanizations: Kefalovrysso, Kefalovriso, Kefalovryson, Kefalovrison, Kefalovrysson) is a village with a population 1040 in 2001 and the seat of the municipality of Ano Pogoni in the northern part of the prefecture of Ioannina. The name comes from κέφαλος kefalos head + βρύσο vryso, a form of βρύση vrysi a spring). The Albanian border is due north with no road connected. It is located north of the Achelous delta. It is located SW of GR-20/E55/E90, Konitsa and Macedonia, W of Vikos, N of Doliana and Ioannina, N of GR-24 and NE of Delvinaki. Nearest places

Kefalovryso has a school which is located in the south and the central part, a lyceum, a minor soccer team, a gymnasium, a church, a small post office and a square (plateia) in the centre with the town hall of Ano Pogoni. The urban houses lies on a slope of a 10 to 15 degree angle. Trees surround almost the entire town while farms situate in the west. The mountains dominate outside Kefalovryso with bushes, green grasses and some trees with a small forest lying in the east. Mount Valaora (Βαλαώρα) lies in the area. The local language is Vlachicka (Βλάχικα) or Vlachika and all of the inhabitants are Vlachoi or Vlachi (Βλάχοι). A part of the population are rural while the other part are employed in Kefalovryso's only factory where the coins are manufactured.
