Dr. Prokopis (also Prokopios) K. Pavlopoulos (10.7.1950 Kalamata) is a Greek lawyer, university professor and politician, and since 2004 Minister for the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation.

Academic career

Pavlopoulos was elected Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Athens in 1989. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Paris II in 1986.

Political career

Pavlopoulos was secretary to Greek President Michail Stasinopoulos in 1974.

In 1989, he served as alternate Minister for the Presidency and government spokesman in the all-party government headed by Xenophon Zolotas.

He served as legal adviser to President Konstantinos Karamanlis from 1990 to 1995, and political advisor to Miltiadis Evert, then chairman of New Democracy from 1995.

He was elected MP for the New Democracy party in the general elections of 1996 and 2000.

On March 10, 2004 he was appointed Minister for the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation by Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis
