Thanassis Vengos

Thanassis (or Thanasis) Vengos (Θανάσης Βέγγος) -(b. 30 May 1925) is a Greek actor whose debut movie was in 1952. His first major role was in 1962's Psila ta heria Hitler. He often plays everyman characters struggling to get by, but he has also done anti-heros, pure dramas, and on stage has acted in Aristophanes comedies. His characters are often named Thanassis. He often works with director Giorgos Lazaridis. A documentary of his life, which translates as An All-Weather Man, was made in 2004. He always did his scenes without using a stunt even for the most dangerous ones, like hanging with a single rope from a balcony, or walking through a glass door.

On a personal level he was exiled from 1948 to 1950 for political reasons. On Makronisos he met director Nikos Koundouros who was also exiled there. Nikos Koundouros later gave him his debut movie role in Magiki polis (1955). In 2000 a train crashed into his car, but he survived. Still he was injured and later did safety advertisements on the matter. He is married to a woman named Asimina and they have two children. He reportedly loves spaghetti.
