Agios Georgios Nileias is a village, part of the municipality Milea of the Magnesia prefecture. The village is 20 km east of Volos between Agios Vlasios and Pinakates. The population of Agios Georgios Nileias was 1092 in 2001

The population is divided in the following settlements

  • Agios Georgios / Άγιος Γεώργιος ( 800 m.) pop.
  • Dio Remata / Δυο Ρέματα ( 500 m.) pop.27
  • Aghia Triada / Αγία Τριάδα ( 350 m) pop.221
  • Ano Gatzea / Άνω Γατζέα (150 m.) pop.289
  • Kato Gatzea / Κάτω Γατζέα , pop.376

According to a legend the village was founded in the 15th century after an icon of St. George /Agios Georgios was discoverd in the region.

The village was destroyed by Dramalis during the Greek war of independence.

The population increased until the second world war but after the German occupation and the civil war many left the village.

The sculptor Nikolas Pavlopoulos (1909 - 1990) was from Agios Georgios Nileias. His museum (Δημοτικό Μουσείο γλύπτη Νικόλα) is in Agios Georgios.
