Megalochori (old Form Megalochorion ) (Μεγαλοχώρι) "large village" is actually a small village 9 km from Fira , population 460 (census 2001). The village exists at least since the middle of the 17th century.

In 1928 the population was 584.

Traces of a protocycladic settlement were found near Megalochori
