Antomosia

Antomosia

(ἀντωμοσία). A part of the ἀνάκρισις, or preliminary pleadings in an Athenian lawsuit. The term was used of an oath taken by both parties: by the plaintiff, that his complaint was well-founded, and that he was actuated by no improper motives; and by the defendant, that his defence was true. It was also called διωμοσία. The oath might contain either the direct affirmative or negative, in which case it was called εὐθυδικία; or amount to a demurrer or παραγραφή.
