Manolis Chiotis (Greek: Μανώλης Χιώτης) was a famous Greek Rebetiko composer, singer and bouzouki player. Biography He was born on March 21, 1920 (or 1921) in Thessaloniki and died on 1970, allegedly on his very birthday. He began his recording career circa 1938-1939 playing for Stratos Pagioumtzis. His career took off once the recording sudios reopend after the second world war recording the popular "Pasatempos" with separate covers by Roza Eskinazi and Ioanna Georgakopoulou. He has composed many great songs that have become timeless, to name a few: "O Pasatémpos" (Ο Πασατέμπος), "Apópse Fíla me" (Απόψε Φίλα με), "Miázis san Thálassa" (Μοιάζεις σαν Θάλασσα), "Pollés Forés" (Πολλές Φορές). In his compositions the bouzouki has a dominant role and Chiotis is known to have been an incredible virtuoso of this characteristic Greek instrument. It should also be noted that he added a fourth string to the bouzouki in order to increase the range of the instrument giving us the sound that we know today. He was married three times. His first to Zoi Nahi, his second and most well known marriage to Mary Linda (Μαίρη Λίντα) who has sung many of his compositions, and the third to Beba Kyriakidou.
