Teaching of Music. In the center, a boy before his seated teacher who looks into his opened roll. The boy seems to be reciting, the teacher checking. On the roll: MOISA MOI / A[N]PHI SKAMANDRON / EUR[R]WN ARCHOMAI / AEI[N]DEIN vac. This scans as hexameter, but conflates two ideas: Muse, to me . . . and, I begin to sing of wide flowing Scamander (cf. Buschor in Furtwängler [1904]).
