Stylianos "Stelios" Manolas (Greek: Στέλιος Μανωλάς) (born on 13 July 1961 in Naxos, Greece) is a retired Greek international football player who played as a centre back. He is arguably the best football defender ever to come out from Greece.

Playing career

Club career

Manolas was brought to AEK Athens' youth academy whe he was still 15 years old by Dimitris Karousis. He made his debut in a 1–1 draw against Kastoria on 24 February 1980 and became a mainstay in AEK Athens' defense until his retirement on 17 May 1998 in a 2–0 win against Skoda Xanthi. His untamed nature caused problems with his managers, most notably with Dušan Bajević and Alketas Panagoulias.

International career

He was capped 67 times by the Greece national football team, scoring 6 goals, and was a member of the 1994 FIFA World Cup squad.

Managerial career

After his playing days were over, Manolas coached the Greek under-21 team.
