Athamania (Greek: Αθαμανία) is a municipality in the prefecture of Arta, Greece. Population 6382 (2001). The seat of the municipality is in Vourgareli.
The municipaliy is named after the region of the Athamanians or Athamanes an ancient tribe that inhabited south-eastern Epirus and west Thessaly.

Vourgareli is the seat of the municipality. Near Vourgareli is a the small "red church", kokkini ekklisia from the 13th century.
Kypseli is a small mountain village (c. 600m). Near the village is the monastery Evangelistria or what remained from the monastery from the early 18th century. Of interest are the wallpaintings of the small church.
Mesounta is a small mountain village, near the river Acheloos (known as Aspropotamos "white river). In the region the leader of the communist ELAS organization Aris Velouchiotis and his friend Tzavelas were killed in 16 June 1945 by military forces. They were beheaded and their heads exposed in the Rigas Feraios square of Trikala
