Nestorio or Nestorion(Νεστόριο) is a municipality in the Kastoria Prefecture, Greece. Population 1782 (2001). The area was ruled by the Ottomans until the Balkan Wars of 1913. It became a part of Greece in 1913. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, many of its buildings were rebuilt. Some of its residents moved to other parts of Greece and North America Electricity and automobiles arrived in the 1960s, it was linked with pavement in the late-20th century, television arrived in the 1980s. Internet and computers arrived in the late-1990s. The area around Nestorio was struck by a fire in late-July 2007, its forests were quickly burnt and left several houses and other properties including cars burnt and destroyed. Fire trucks along with firefighters, helicopters and airplanes battled the fire and quickly stopped spreading outside the area of Nestorio and in the village. It lasted for several days and it affected Kypseli, Pefko and Trilofo area. Division of the municipality
Nea Kotyli Nestorio Monopylo / το Μονόπυλο [ 20 ] Nestorio is divided in Ano Nestorio und Kato Nestorio (upper and lower Nestorio) The village attracts visitors all year round. The endless green fields, Aliakmon river, the magnificent view and the options for accommodation, food and entertainment have made it famous all around Greece. Nestorio is known throughout Greece for the summer music festival held in Nestorio every year, usually in July, called River Party. The world-wide renowned River Party takes place every year in Nestorio. It is a big concert organized every summer, at the first days of August in the banks of river Aliakmon. It is a pole of attraction for thousands of young people. Many artists participate in this festival and entertain people with their songs. The region around Aliakmon is really magnificent. Nature can be a short getaway from everyday routine. It is the perfect place to meet new people, as thousands of young people visit it to participate at the River Party.
