Magiko (or Magikon) "the Magic" (Μαγικό Ξάνθης) is a village c. 8.8 km S of the city of Xanthi, its older name : Kotza Mahmoutlou (Kοτζά Mαχμουτλού ) or Kotza Mamoutli, a settlement of Turks. It was part of the "Vilaeti (vilayet )" of Adrianoupolis, the "Santzaki (sanjak)(administrative division)" of Gioumoultzina (now Komotini) and the "Kaza (kazas)" of Xanthi. Since 1912 part of the prefecture of Xanthi. The current village was formed by refuges after the Minor Asia catastrophe of 1922. Magiko was with Alkyoni a community but now after the Kapodistrian Law a part of the Vistonida Municipality. In the village is the church Agiou Konstantinou kai Elenas. The name of Magiko (which in Greek means Magic) is probably derived from the celebration in May (Panygiri tou Mayou (festival of May) or Mayatiko). Persons
