Feres

Ferai , Ferres or Pherres (Greek; , türk. Fareçik) is a city, population 5206 in 2001, part of the synonymous municipality of the prefecture Evros. The municipality was formed in 1987.

  • The orthodox church Panagia Kosmosoteira (Saviour of the World). The church was build 1152 as part of a monastery by Isaac Comnenus, the third son of the byzantine Emperor Alexius I. Around 1355 villagers looking for prrotection inside the walls of the monastery forced the monks to leave the monastery. 1357 or 1371/2 it was used as a mosque until the 20th century where it again was used as an orthodox church, now it is the official seat of an organization of Thracians.
