Kalamos, Satellite image Kalamos (Κάλαμος), known in antiquity as Karnos (ΚΑΡΝΟΣ), is a mountainous Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It has a population of 543 (in the year 2001) which is swelled substancially in the summer by tourists. The name Kalamos means reed in Greek. Kalamos is a communne in the prefecture of Lefkada. Its municipal code is 3603. Its highest point is 745 feet (around 225 meters) above sea level. The area of the island is c. 20 km2. The main settlement on Kalamos is the port town of Kalamos, on the east coast of the island. From here a regular ferry service connects the island to Mytikas (Alyzia municipality) on the mainland. Episkopi is the only other village on the island. Links
