Fournas (Φουρνά) is a municipality in Evrytania, Greece. Population 1542 (2001), area 132.23 km2. Fournas is a mountain village (alt. 820 m), the seat of the synonymous municipality (approx. 270 km from Athens). It was called Kiostan or Kiosteni during the Ottoman period. From 1833 Fournas was the seat of the municipality of Ktimenia until 1912 when it was changed into a community. Part og the village was destroyed by the earthquake of 5.2.1966. The municipality Fournas was formed 1992 with the village Fournas and included later with the Kapodistrias plan of 1997 Vracha and Kleiston. Division of the municipality
Vracha and Kleiston (or Kleistos) are mountain villages (alt. 900 m and 780 m respectively). Kleiston was earlier known as Kleitsos.
