Aetos, Messenia

Aetos (Greek: ) is a municipality in Messenia, Greece. Population 3264 (2001). The seat of the municipality is in Kopanaki. Arfara is a town in Messinia about 15 km from Kalamata. Its name is taken from the first people who lived in Upper Arfara, the Arfaras, some of whom still live in Simi and Rodos. How the Arfaras moved from Arfara to Cimi no one knows. The town is the capital of Arfara municipality, which consists of the villages of Pidima, Agios Floros, Agios Konstantinos, Platy, Agrilos, and Stamatinoy. Arfara has 3 small areas called Servia, Lafazaneika, Skomara and Karagiorgaika. It has a high school and an elementary school. The council and the mayor are located in this town as well as a police station.
