Nestoras

Nestoras (Νέστορας) is a municipality in Messenia, Greece. Population 5552 (2001). The seat of the municipality is in Chora.

Nestoras is named after Nestor the mythical King of Pylos. In Englianos is the so-called Palace of Nestor.

Ampelofyto

Ampelofyto (old form Ampelofyton) is a village of Nestoras municipality.In 2001 the population was 348, in the past it was up to 1000, many left the village during the 1960s. It was named after the vineyards in the region. Before the 1930s it was called Agorelitsa. The village was in the past closer to the river Sela. Near the old place in 19 July 1944 there was a battle between Greek forces of the ELAS resistance group and Germans, c. 20 Greeks died, a much larger number of Germans. A monument reminds this event.
