Apollonas

Apollonas (Greek : Απόλλωνας) is a municipality in Arcadia, Greece. Population 2116 (2001). The seat of the municipality is in Tyros.

Tyros

Tyros is a village around 75 km from Tripolis, Paralia Tyrou is like Kryoneri a seaside village. Tyros is derived from "Tyri", Cheese. According to mythology Apollo had a herd of cows and thus he was a protector of milk products. A few km from Pera Melana there was a sanctuary of Apollo, inscriptions were found with the text Apelon Tyritas (for Apollon Tyritas). On the sanctuary, a christian church was build.
