Archias of Corinth

Archias of Corinth was the founder of Syracuse when in 734 or 733 BC Greek settlers from Corinth, led by the oecist Archias, who called it Sirako, refering to a nearby swamp.

Pausanias

... For when he despatched Archias the Corinthian to found Syracuse he uttered this oracle:

An isle, Ortygia, lies on the misty ocean
Over against Trinacria, where the mouth of Alpheius bubbles
Mingling with the springs of broad Arethusa.
