Aristonidas

The artist Aristonidas, desiring to represent the madness of Athamas giving way to remorse after he had hurled his son Learchos from the rocks, mixed iron with copper, in order that the iron rust might suffuse the brightness of the copper and portray the blush of shame. This statue is still to be seen at Rhodes.
