Hypsicles

Hypsicles (Ὑψικλῆς). An astronomer of Alexandria, who flourished under Ptolemy Physcon, about B.C. 146. He is considered by some to have been the author of the fourteenth book appended to Euclid's Elements, in which he discussed the regular solids. No one, however, disputes his claim to a small work entitled Περὶ τῆς τῶν Ζωδίων Ἀναφορᾶς, in which he gives a method, far from exact, of calculating the risings of each sign or portion of the ecliptic.
