Staphylus of Naucratis in Egypt, a Greek writer mentioned by Strabo (x. p. 475), Pliny (H. N. v. 31) and Athenaeus (ii, p.45m c) as well by the scholiasts, wrote a work on Thessaly (Schol. ad. Apoll. Rhod. iv. 816; Harpocrat. s. v. Penestai; Schol. ad. Aristoph. Nub, 1064), on Aeolia and Attica (Harpocrat. s. vv. epoboion pronaia)m and on Arcadia (Sext. Empit. adv. Math. 116)
