Ekali (Greek: Εκάλη, Latin: Hecale) is a rather exclusive suburb in Attica, Greece -- just about 20 km north of Athens. Ekali is purely residential, which means there are no shops or night clubs. Ekali has strict building regulations to ensure the conservation of its character as a pleasant, green suburb. Ekali sits in the between the Athenian plain and the Penteli mountains. The plain is to the west, the forests of the mountains that are connected with the rest of the mountains lie to the east. Ekali is the northernmost division in the agglomeration as well as Megali Diktyo. Ekali is accessed with an interchange with GR-1/E75 (Athens - Lamia - Thessaloniki) at the 18th km near Varympompi to the southwest. The Penteli mountains in which they are forested and some of them are urbanized lie to the east. The Cephissus River lies to the west. The main street is Theseos (Theseus) Avenue which is also GR-83 and another road to Dionysos and Rea north of Ekali. Ekali is located SE of Thiva, S of Euboea and Oropos, NE of Kifissia and N of the Attiki Odos (number 6).

Ekali was named after Greek mythology, after a woman Ekali. Theseus before the capture of the Marathonian bull found protection from bad weather in the house of an old woman called Ekali. She promised to sacrifice to Zeus for the success of the operation of Theuseus. Returning Theseus found the woman dead. In honor he named a Demos after Ekali.
