Amfissa (Greek: Άμφισσα ), other form: Amfissa, Latin: Amphissa is a town and the capital of the Phokida prefecture, Greece , Amfissa municipality and the Parnassida province. In the medieval times until the 1800s, the area was known as Salona (Σάλωνα). Amfissa is linked with GR-27 and the old GR-48 linking to Lidoriki. Amfissa sits on the edge of the northern part of the Crisaean plain. The mountains cover the west, further east with the view of the Parnassos mountains and the Gkiona to the north. Farmlands lies to the south. Forests surround the town. Amfissa is located S of Lamia, NW of Livadeia and Delphi, 13 km N of Itea, ENE of Nafpaktos and E of Lidoriki.
Battle of Salona, Mitropoulos in Salona, Amfissa dates back to ancient times. Amfissa once served as a city-state and was the important city in Locris. Amfissa was ruled by the Romans, the Byzantines (it was then known as Salona), the Franks and the Ottomans before joining Greece in 1821. During the Greek War of Independence, Amfissa was liberated by soldiers including Salonon Isaias, Athanasios Diakos, Odysseas Androutsos, Panourgias Dyvouniotis, Trakas, Gkouras, Mitropoulos and more. The anniversary of the seizure of the castle from the Greeks (April 10, 1821) celebrated with every occasion every yeasr from the residents of the city. Amfissa formerly served as a capital of the Eastern Terrestrial Greece.
Many inhabitants are farmers that mainly produce olives. Olives and dairy including goat milk which makes Amfissa the number one production in Greece. Most of the farms are pastures and olive groves and is nicknamed the "Olive Groves of Greece" which is protected as the places of Delphian Landscape.
